Have You Ever Stayed in a London Hostel?

and what`s been your experience?

I find the attitude of (some) of the staff in these places peculiar, possibly because they`re also paying guests and simply moonlight as staff to offset the cost of accommodation.

Thus there is a familiarity, ie addressing you by your first name, making personal remarks/observations, which IMHO goes well beyond the norm.

Some of them are also `rough` types. Do they carry knives?

I also wonder if anyone has suffered from bullying and/or harassment and if in the worst scenario been involved in any overt physical violence and/or attack?

What has been your experience?

  1. I have worked in a hostel never stayed in one at all. From my experience it is a very dreadful place, and lot of people take drugs and carry weapons.

I use to do the cleaning, can you imagine some of the nastiness i had to clean.e.g. blood, poo on the wall. You even have to get a hepatitis shot before working in a hostel.

People steal from one another, they have s*x with one another and they are angry at the world due to mental instability.

  2. I did stay in a few hostels, but only for a week or two, and some are dangerous places to live, and some not so much. Earl's Court I would say is ok, lots of australians there... don't get to serious about that, and if staying longer rent a room or something, its cheaper... anyway you know what they say so much money, so much music... and for the cheap price in london one get a cheap service too...

  3. I normally live in a house..

  4. YHA hostels in London - have stayed plenty of times - Holland Park was excellent as was St Paul's.

The new ones - like Docklands and Kings Cross near British Library are like motels - modern and even have twin rooms en suites etc. Its more like budget accommodation these days.

If you mean staying in a temporary night hostel/sleeping rough - you are unlikely to find honest answers from computer owners posting on this site!

  5. sorry dude, llive in london so have never used a hostel!  i'm sure there are some good ones around though
