The "service engine soon" light is your computer telling you that one of the sensors in your car is not sending a proper signal to your cars computer.

It could be anything from a loose gas cap (no big deal) to an O2 sensor that is costing you big bucks in fuel economy.

Many auto parts stores offer a free read of your cars computer to help you figure out what sensor is sending the bad signal and they can also sell you the part so you can put it in yourself.

Much cheaper than going to a shop if you don't mind doing a little foot work and using google to figure out how to change the part.

Most of the time it is pretty simple to handle a repair this way.
