  1. Sure, as long as it is the same spec as the requirement in the owners manual (or better).

SAE SM is the latest spec for gasoline engines, I think.

  2. Don't run 30W

You can use any oil that doesn't have the words, "Energy Conserving" in the API  circle on the back of the bottle.

I use Rotella full sythetic 5W40 in my Hondas.

I used Mobil1 15W50 for 160,000 miles (till they increased friction modifiers).

    I get it at Walmart.

The following article is long but informative.

  3. 5-w 30 synthetic. Mobil makes a great synthetic oil. That's what I use in my 1800 vtx.

  4. No, 40 is too heavy. You need to run a 5 or 10-30 synthetic. You will hear other claims but this is the perfect oil, even for very hot climates.

  5. Whenever the "oil" questin comes up, I like to send guys to this site....it's a good read.

  6. NO! USE A MOTORCYCLE OIL. it doesn't have to be of any particular brand but make sure it is for motorcycles. and use the weight that is recommended in your owners manual for your conditions. In fact there is a specific sae rating just for motorcycle oil, and there is not that much price difference between regular car oil and  the 0074742 10w40 castrol oil i sell lots of . but there is slight differences that your motorcycle engine and transmission will appreciate.
