  1. She's not going to use it if the great outdoors is available.  You can do a couple of things...

    1. put a cat door in your house and let her come and go.  She generally will not go inside if she can get out.  This way, she can come and go while you are at work.

    2. Put her in a garage or closed in carport area for a few hours with food, water and a litter box.  Play with her and keep her company.  When she starts mewing and wanting out, put her in the litter box.  She will just jump out and go back to the door, but keep repeating this until she either goes in the litter box or on the floor.  If she starts to go on the floor, quickly pick her up and put her in the litter box.  If you can't get her to the box, take her to the "spot" she used & say in a stern voice- no, then put her in the litter box.  If she goes in the litter box, say something sweet in a really sweet voice.  You may have to do this several times.  I have had about a dozen cats during my life, and I've never had one that didn't take to a litter box in a day or two.  My mom took the cat door route and her cat has never gone in the house (& refuses to use a litterbox).

  2. Kitty's are usually excellent in the litter box due to instinct.  What I did with my kitty was whenever she pooped somewhere in the house, I would pick it up and put it in the litter box and bring her to it, also if she peed inside, i would soak it up with a paper towel and leave it in the litter box she learned in no time.

If kitty is outside, he/she will not use the litter box for obvious reasons.  Try taking kitty inside and teaching it to go in the litter box, once shes got it down inside, then you can start letting her back outside.  Cats are relatively smart and will catch on quick.  Good Luck!

  3. if she does her business outside the litter box, put some kitty litter over it, pick it up and put it inside the box, so she will associate the smell of urine and f***s with the litter box.

  4. My cats use the litter boxes when they are in the house and will use the dirt when they are outside - she will know to use the litter box if you bring her in- once you have her inside, just put her in it so she knows where it is - cats are great like that- I have six-

  5. start by using litter she is familiar with, put dirt in it and evenly keep adding a little litter and mixing it with the dirt. keep repeating this untill its completely litter. if she keeps using it then there you go. job done

  6. Why would a feral cat use a litter box when the whole yard is a litter box? I've raised feral cats " cats born outside " with little problems when it comes to getting them to use a litter box once I brought them inside however! If there has been animals in your place before that has wet or soiled your floors the new cat might do the same thing when it gets the scent? My concern here is the age of your cat. Once a feral cat reaches a certain age they usually don't adjust to people well which is why I usually wait until they are still small before bring them in and getting them adjusted to being around people and learning how to use the litter box. 7. Well your kitty likes doing his business outside, not in a crampled little box on your back porch.

When you bring him inside, Keep him to one room for a few days.  Make sure it has a litter box.  He will use it.  Cats have a great instinct for digging holes in dirt for this purpose.  Just make sure you don't have any potted plants in the room.  Once he is using the litter box, and feels comfortable in his one room, let him out of the bedroom.  Leave the bedroom litter box where it is, but put a new box where the box will eventually stay.  Now, slowly start moving the box in the bedroom to where the other box is.  He'll get the message.  :)

But, as long as he's outside, he'll probably not use the litterbox in your porch.

  8. First of all, use unscented litter.  Second, you won't be able to litter train her until you move her inside.  She will find a more natural setting to do her business outside.  I have one of these litter boxes and my 4 year old cat never has an accident.  When I used scented litter she didn't use her litter box consistently.
