the entire top of the stove get's hot enough to burn yourself on even the little lip in the front of the stove just above the oven door ... if anyone has any suggestions it would be great as I really don't want to pay 90 dollars for someone just to come look at it.

Thanks.

  1. I think this is normal after all you are producing a LOT of heat and some of it will get absorbed by the stove.

  2. I too am in the "basically that is normal" category.

I think people are in too much of a hurry these days and microwaves have spoiled us.

In the manuals they recommend you do NOT use the highest setting unless absolutely needed. Mainly because it heats the top so much and can cause the burner to cycle on the overheat limit which is there to protect the top.

Most often a hot top can be caused by warped pans, or worse, ones with rounded bottoms. You need a good contact with the surface for the pans to absorb the heat and not be heating the whole top as much.

So this may be a good excuse for buying some new good pans with a heavy flat bottom.

Also be sure you match the pans to the burner size. Putting a large pan over a smaller burner causes it to heat more of the top. Again, this is in the manual.

But that heating is the reason they put warning lights on the ranges to tell you the top is hot.

    Good Luck.
