Have a Gateway Solo 1450 Laptop that the screen went dim i guess it's the LDC light?

But why can't i use a external monitor, the external monitor works in safe mode but not on normal bootup in win XP, it just goes blank. wonder why?

Hold down the FN+LCD/CRT  keys that turns the external monitor on and off.
