have a bachelors degree and I am in the IL Army National Guard. I apply everyplace. I fill out applications. Email my resume, snail mail my resume, drop it off in person, call places, ECT. What is wrong with me?

  1. You shouldn't have joined the National Guard.  Or at least put it on your resume.

  2. Probably just not any openings.  I would certainly be interested in you in my preschool with your bachelor's degree but I am full!  And you are a little too far away since I am in Ohio.

Good luck - all I can see is keep trying.

  3. Sounds like your not making any mistakes its just that jobs have been sent offshore by the thousands. That has displaced just vast legions of people. Those people are applying to those positions along with you. What can I say... the market is glutted with labor. When these displaced workers are off unemployment benefits they are no longer counted which distorts the true picture. However, they are indeed still out there searching. The businesses that scream about how they can find workers REALLY mean workers that will work for $2.00 / hour.  Best of luck to you.

  4. Tommy, I really do not think the problem is you. I am in the same boat. In 2006, my job position was downsized. I was living in Chicago at the time. I had to move from Chicago back to my hometown because I was unable to find employment. It has been 2 years as of today, since I have worked. I did the same things you did as far as emailing and calling. I also know several other people who are in the same situation as you and I. I talk to other people who got their break due to knowing someone. I now live in a state where the unemployment rate is very high. I am willing to move back to Chicago if I can find employment there. I am actually looking in my hometown and in Chicago. I am in my forties so I was told to eliminate all references pertaining to my age on my resume. I did that and afterwards, I did get responses but did not get the jobs due to certain circumstances. It is just hard for many people. I try to stay motivated, but it is difficult when I am repeatedly over looked. I am at the point where I will just about do anything. I do not care anymore; however, I still cannot find a job. My advice to you is to apply to all jobs, even if the pay is not what you want. Just get in there so you will have an income, and in the meantime continue to look for a suitable job. If you are older like me make sure you rid your resume of all references pertaining to your age, so employers cannot use your age to discriminate against you. I read where someone on Yahoo Answers found a job by going through the phonebook and calling different places. I myself am in the process of trying that method. Maybe that might work for you as well.  I have decided that I will be a pest if I have to be one. I am going to be more aggressive. I suggest you do the same.

    Good luck!
