  1. Pacemakers are for both Tachycardia and Bradycardia.  You have Tachycardia which is a fast heart rate.  What a pacemaker does is regulates your beats per minute.  My mom is 42 and she had a pacemaker put in a few weeks ago and what they do is cut open a tiny flap of skin on your left breast, attach the wires from the pacemaker to the heart.  You will have a small incision with no stiches on it so be careful on what you do for awhile.  It is common to have clear fluid to come out of your incision but if you do call you electrophysiologist so they can put more paste on the incision.  You will have a few check ups during the year to see if your pacemaker is functioning properly.  They will also do checks over the phone as well.

  2. Ask the hospital about the pacemaker people that come in for a reboot because they went wild after the heart slowed down.

  3. First get a second opinion. If they both concur, then have it put in.

  4. generally pacemakers are for a slow heart rate, Do you mean a defibrillator?

  5. If the doctor says you need a pacemaker, then you should get one.  It is actually not a major operation and does not involve open heart surgery.  An incision is made just down from the shoulder in the upper chest to implant a small device that will keep your heart beating at a more normal pace.  Usually it involves just one night in the hospital.  Afterward, you need to be careful for a little while so that you don't jostle the wires on the side that it was placed.
