ok, I homeschool my son, whose soon to be 11. What I need to know is how to make homemade toothpaste, or should I say organic if possible? My son wants to make it for a homeschool project.

I know this maybe a wierd question, but I thought it was a neat question, & something even neater to learner for the future.

  1. Neat question. I think you and your son will have fun with this one.

Try these sites (I just googled them).....

    http://mizar5.com/toothpst.htm

    www.makeyourown.net/toothpaste2

If you check on the Colonial Williamsburg website, you will find toothpowder for sale, and you can buy tooth powder at a Civil War Reenactment Camp. They also use to use licorace (spelling???) root for cleaning their teeth back in the day { you would chew on the end of the root and then use the chewed end to 'scrub' your teeth} {FYI-- the root has a nasty taste when you are chewing on it, but it will not harm you in anyway}.

    Have fun.

  2. I know you use baking soda... sorry idk the other ingredients

  3. What a neat project!

Here is a link to the teacher's page for a NASA toothpaste making project.  There is a link to the student page at the bottom of the teacher page.

This is for grades 9-11, but I am sure you can adapt it for your son.

Let us know how it goes.  :)
