I bought a hot tub, but my electrical box is 150amp service and I can't afford to upgrade to 200 amp service. Can I simply unplug the dryer and plug the hot tub into the dryer socket?

  1. No. you cannot, and you cannot afford to repair it either.

  2. No the hot tub needs to be on a 2 pole GFI breaker. Your dryer is not GFI protected.

  3. yes if its 220

  4. Just because you have a 150 Amp service does not mean you can't install a hot tub. If you have space in your panel, you can add breakers....you just need an electrician to verify your existing service can handle the new load. The hot tub does require a GFCI breaker for your safety. Call an electrical contractor and have them give you a quote.... most reputable contractors will come out and quote for free. Good luck and PLEASE don't attach the hot tub to your dryer receptacle.

  5. Talk to a local electrician......

You can probably have your dryer circuit upgraded to run your hot tub safely....

  6. No. It needs to be GFCI protected. Also some hot tubs are 50 amps dryers are only 30 amp.
