Have a layover in bogata...going to quito,equador do i have to recheck my bags?

its my first time traveling through south america and since my spanish is so so iam kind of worried about it. iam flying out of LAX to Quito with Avianca airlines and i have a hr and 40 min layover in bogata. i was just curious if i have to recheck my bags again or should it be a pretty strait forward process? has anyone else had to deal with some thing like this before? thanks for your help

  1. No you wont. Your bags will be transferred for you. 1 hour 40 is a tiny, tiny amount of time to get to your flight. Eldorado airport is about 30 years behind the times size wise and you will get off your aircraft go down a long hall and then detoured to your gate. (Its a crazy layout and will make you laugh.) There is NO way you could go out of security, get your bag, go back into the airport, re-check your bag, go through security again and make your flight. I fly in and out of Eldorado all the time and your bags WILL be transferred.


  2. Are you flying to Quito also on Avianca? If so, then NO you do not need to recheck your bags. However, if you plan on flying to Quito on another airline, then YES you will have to check your bags in.
