Question:

Have a question about a boil?

Last year, I developed a boil and my girlfriend helped me stay on top of cleaning, draining and covering it daily. Shortly after it seemed to not get better, so I went to a doctor. The doctor drained the boil for me and prescribed me with antibiotics. All he did was use a q-tip to open the boil and put gauze pads on it to let it drain onto that. Well, after taking about 90% of the medicine, I developed a high fever and the nurse told me to stop taking them. So, I did. My boil pretty much died, became black and was flat. Now, a couple of days ago, I noticed itching in that area and my girlfriend and I inspected it and saw that it's getting poofy or swollen again, slowly, but is also losing it's black color and slowly turning red-ish purple again. Should I be worried and contact my doctor? He told us that the treatment we were doing for it before was perfect, so should I just stick with that instead? Or go to the doctor?

I don't even know if it's actually coming back or not, but I have no insurance so I don't want to waste an appointment to find out.

Thanks!

  1. switch your doc...it could be staph infection

  2. I would not  take any chances on something like this. Go to the doctor.

  3. you can apply tea tree oil directly to the area 3 times a day, also begin taking probiotics, this will help establish good bacteria in your system to help fight off infections, oil of oregano and/or olive leaf are other good supplements that can help build your immune system to fight off infections. while this area seems to be active, avoid sugar, alcohol and caffeine, they feed bacteria.

  4. even though it sounds kind of retarded, a boil can become serious if not drained completely and healed.  i had one on my bum a while back.  it was seriously awful.  lol.  i couldn't sit for days... then when i finally let someone look at it, they were like "dude.  get that to a doctor immediately.".  so i did.  they stabbed a needle into it, to numb my skin, then used a scalpel (sp) and cut an X into it.  then she squeezed it for about an hour.  it was embarrassing.  right near my c r a c k!!!  lol.   and it was still pretty painful.  anyway, moving on.  she stuffed it full of gauze and said to come back in 48 hours, exactly, to make sure the wound was still open so that it could finish draining...  now i have a weird black scar on my butt cheek.  i hate it.  but.  i had to do it.  she told me that if you leave the infection in your skin, your body will continue building up tissue and junk around it to capture it and keep it where it is.. to in a way "save" your body for it attacking you...  so to speak.  but.  as with any infection, anything is possible and it could burst, or some how get into your blood stream or something, then get you sick on a different level.  if i were you, i'd definitely get it looked at again, and explain to whom ever you see all thatyou've done for it and how it's been acting...  i got a great treatment at my local ER... and it only cost like 112.  which is a lot i know, but for all they did and how better it was... it was well worth it.

  5. you should go back to the doctor to make sure its coming back again. And if so find out why it keeps coming back.

  6. you need to stay on top of this there was a story on tv the other day about this and the guy almost died from it because it got infected so i would go back to the dr....expecially if you start going numb anywhere or breathing wierd go to a dr asap if so!!
