is it possible to have a amalgam tattoo years after a filling.

  1. Yes. The silver is under the gum tissue and is permanent, just like a regular tattoo.

    Sometimes the silver can actually be seen on an x-ray if there is enough of it.

    Theoretically it might be possible to remove the offending gum tissue surgically. A periodontist (gum specialist) would be the person to consult if you were really worried about the aesthetics.
