Have a question????????

I need some help. My group FCCLA Family Career and community leaders of Amercia are having a teens against violence week. We have set up some guest speakers, are handing out posters/brochures, handing out bracelets to 3 individuals in each class explaining that 1 in 3 people have been abused or are. We have also set up a small skit where we were planning to act out an abusive relationship. I know it will not come close to what individuals really have to go through but we atre thinking that this will put some sense into teenagers. We are all out of ideas. If you would be so kind as to give me some suggestions of what we can do I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you to all those who answer.

  1. Have you contacted your local Domestic Violence Prevention group? These groups are available to every community; and they should have some great ideas for you. Also, be sure to publicize your local Domestic Violence Hotline, include that phone number on your posters/brochures.....better yet, see if your local Domestic Violence Hotline has stickers with the Hotline number that you can distribute. Good Luck!

  2. Create a MySpace and FaceBook profile for your effort, and encourage teens to link to it. Use the blogs and bulletins on this site to talk about your efforts.

Make sure your web site is up-to-date and has complete information on your efforts. Don't forget to name the date of your special week (as you did in your post here).

Consider asking your teen volunteers to explore ways they could use their cell phone networks to get the word out, through simple text messages that encourage friends to look at your online information and attend your events.

Start a Flickr account and encourage teens and others to submit photos of themselves volunteering in action, to post on the account; all photos should name your organization and web site. Make sure parents sign photo releases allowing you to post photos of their children.

  3. Give speechs, hand out cookies, and if you want more ideas asked the students.
