My husband and I were interested in adopting from China. Is there any information on African Americans adopting from China? I have heard that they do not like anyone of African descent, therefore do not allow adoptions to us no matter what the income. Is this true?

  1. I hate to tell you this, but at the agency I used to adopt my son from China (after we adopted him) there was an african american woman who was originally approved to adopt a daughter then turned down at the final stage because they saw that she was black. The agency fought the decision and the woman allowed to bring the girl home after all, but since then China wants to know up front if you are african american (canadian, whatever) so they can turn you down before it gets to that stage. I don't know what their reasoning is, but they've turned down a bunch of black couples since last year. I think if you are an interracial couple there may be hope as I've heard of some black and white couples bringing kids home.

  2. It beats me why agencies would rather place a child that will be considered a minority in the US with average educated lowermiddle class white people up to their eyeballs in debt then with educated african american couples that would know a lot more on how to deal with discrimination and racism.

Any "white" "conservatives" out there with an answer.

  3. PLEASE look here first: http://www.adoption.com/

There are a lot of questionable goings-on with Chinese adoption agencies, and I'll bet that there are kids much nearer to you who need a forever-family.

(Also - I don't mean to be brutal, but a black couple with a Chinese baby is going to get a lot of stares, and the kid will get made fun of in school. My adoptive family is blonde and blue-eyed, and I'm Syrian, dark hair hazel eyes; we don't look that different, and I got made fun of to no end.)

  4. Inde: You really should do your research before you jump in with an opinion that is not based on fact. China makes the rules, not the agencies. I'm very sorry to say that sadly China has been discriminating against black couples.

  5. i have a better question: why would an african-american couple want to adopt internationally from china when most kids in this country who NEED homes are black?

    *shakes head*

  6. It's not the agency, it's the country.  Chinese people discriminating against blacks.

  7. I've heard this too, but only secondhand.

ETA: Inde: it's not the agencies discriminating against African Americans adopting from China, it's CHINA doing it!  So, there goes your white conservative conspiracy theory.

BTW, China also doesn't allow people with certain facial deformities to adopt, due to a cultural prejudice against it.

  8. That is truly disturbing if it’s true.  I recently read an article in regards to the Olympics where it stated that Bars were forbidden from severing “Blacks” and Mongolian.  Here is the article.

I never saw it main stream though so I don’t know how accurate it is. If its true it clearly shows that china has discrimination against "black" this is very  sad considering that Asians are also a people of color. As much as they may want to kiss the rear end of racist white folk.

For once i agree with Independent that white people can so easily adopt children of color but god forbid someone who is not white want to adopt a child of color who is not their same race.
