  1. It actually sucks, because if you need a surgery you come down here but you still have to pay the tax in Canada.

    Socialized medicine is bad news

  2. About as many as "conservatives" who've lived in a truly "capitalist" country.. A mix of capitalism and socialism is best.. That is the USA..

BTW-- Of all the countries listed above, none are "socialist"...

Definition of socialism = Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy.

In other words.. The gov't owns and distributes EVERYTHING.. Property, income, resources, food, everything...

Flags from China -- I suppose if by "modern US" definition, you mean "Republican hogwash".. You would be correct..

  3. NO, but I have noticed how more left-leaning countries in Europe are now wooping our asses as our right-wing administration digs our hole deeper by the day.

  4. The United States is part socialist, part capitalist already.

  5. Oh yeah. I've spent a significant amount of time abroad, including living in a Communist country. I actually thought it was pretty nice. I intend to go back there in the future to teach. Can't say if I will live there permanently, at least for the near future I intend to do a lot more traveling before I settle down.

I have also spent time in European countries which by American standards are "socialist." Those countries were amazing, particularly Sweden. Granted in the European countries I was only traveling and did not stay for an extended period of time.

I generally find that Americans who have not been outside the West (America, Western Europe, and the other industrialized countries) tend to have a very distorted view of what the non-western world is like. They usually imagine it is nothing but starvation and oppression. Having lived in both Africa and Asia, I can tell you it is not like that at all.

  6. I'm not a Obama supporter, but I have relatives who lived in East Germany under Communist rule.

That is why I can not be a Liberal or Democrat.

  7. Yes, Germany and france...

  8. Yes.  I lived in Spain.  I enjoyed it and was amazed at how little health care cost and that everyone got August off.

I returned to the US due to higher education options and having family responsibilities that I needed to attend to here.

Edit: Jamie, according to the modern US definition, yes they are.

  9. We all have been, most of us are just too d**n ignorant to recognize it. And it's staring us right in the face.

  10. No, or they wouldn't be supporting him...but if they have their way, we all will.
