Help Them By Stopping Them

Stop them before they breed

the bad writers, bad spellers;

the ignorant who cannot read

much less comprehend the need

for punctuation and good grammar.

Stamp out the uneducated;

the text messagers who

think the art of communicating

is in cell phone keys.

Oh please,

I beg you please,

do not give them ease.

They must learn in order to grow;

you can help to encourage

and show them

the way to better skills.

Ignorance is not a tool,

it

only

kills

the light

on

the

path.

  1. I understand where this is coming from completely because bad grammar and spelling is a pet peeve of mine, although I know of a few fantastic writers/poets who can barely work out where to put a comma!

    That, as much as it infuriates me, does not mean they are a terrible person who should be stopped before they "breed".

    So, as much as I like this poem, I find it terribly harsh and I wouldn't recommend you to post this anywhere else. Sorry.

  2. Aim is off:  you're speaking to those who are NOT bad writers, etc.  So, rather than being 'didactic,' it's more along the lines of 'pedagogic theory,' as from one teacher to another.

    ----->Little poet, who cannot spell

    ----->and uses thumbspeak, mostly,

    ----->send that poem straight to h**l;

    ----->it's far too weak to postly.

    Somp'm like that.  It's not a BIG bludgeon, and it doesn't demean the poet--you want them to work at improving their work, rather than getting defensive and stubborn, right?

  3. "Stop them before they breed" I feel this is a little harsh. Those who have difficulty reading and writing are not necessarily unintelligent or ignorant.

  4. It's a tad elitist.

    Those of us who cannot read

    do not believe there is a need.

    We should stamp out this fallacy,

    but NEVER act that callously.
