Have any current AFL players expressed interest in playing for Gold Coast, West Sydney or even Tasmania?

We know all about the licences for teams 17 and 18 but seriously, how can they ask people to support or sponsor a team when we don't even know who they are going to be, much less the calibre of players they are? I know that there is no other way for them to go about it but it's almost the same as being asked to tip a side to win without knowing which players will be in.

  1. I don't think any players would express interest in playing for the new franchises yet, since it would show that they're not commited to the club they are currently with.

We will start to see who signs up for the teams when they play in the Queensland league. They will start in the Under-18's division, and then play in higher leagues until they reach AFL.

You won't know the list they will play with until around 2010/2011 when the team enters the actual AFL.

  2. Many of the players on the Roos & Demons list should put their hand up.

The sooner those two teams are given the flick, the better.

No-one currently playing for the Pies would be good enough to get a game with the new teams.

  3. I've heard several Collingwood players have put their hand up to play for these teams - free of charge.

But they have been knocked back because the new teams don't want to start off their campaigns with a tarnished reputation - which would be the case if they took any Pies players.

  4. It's all too bl00dy farcical. Running franchises, what rubbish. Sounds like the good old USA. Move club names around different cities at the whim of new owners looking to cash in.

It's only a game after all. Better grass roots footy to be seen at the local footy club. This "elite" footy is rubbish.

  5. I think Gold Coast have already signed on 3 young guys (17yr olds)?. Think I read that somewhere a week or two back. Could be wrong - been known to happen. I believe even if a player wanted to defect, they would have to wait til they were out of contract, used as trade bait or delisted. (It's not Rugby League where people can just wander around mid season picking who they want to play for next - thank goodness. lol)

  6. nah, dnt think so, but i think it was nathan brown or richo who were sayin tht they'd like to support the tazzie team in some way, help coach i think, not certain. u know tht mars bars r goin to be changed to believe bars durin september to help with the development of the tazzie team. im gunna help support it even tho i barrack for the dockers!!
