My blood type is O negative and my husband is positive. We want to have a baby soon. The doctor told me that my blood would make anti bodies and attack the baby if it's positive, because my blood will think that the baby is a foreign attack on my body. I was given a shot of RhoGham to help prevent this. Have any of you that are RH Negative had Rh Positive babies with or without RhoGham. This may be a shot in the dark seeing as though very few people have my blood type. But if you do please reply.

  1. you can have a baby with Rh neg blood.  The shot of Rhogam is given at 28 weeks to prevent you from creating antibodies against the fetuses blood if the baby ends up with Rh pos blood.  If the fetus is Rh neg, then you did not need the shoy but the problem is that tha blood type of the fetus will not be determined until after the baby is born.

  2. I have B negative blood & my son is B positive.  I had RhoGam at 28 weeks & after delivery.  I also had a RhoGam shot after a miscarriage.  The RhoGam doesn't change your baby's blood type - it is whatever it is - but testing is done after the baby is born...

My Mom also has B neg, my Dad was O positive.  I believe my brother also is B neg (although not 100% sure)...so it's really up to mother nature!

  3. Rh negative can happen with any blood type, not just O. I have type A blood and I was Rh negative, and my son is Rh positive (or it was the other way around, I can't remember, it was 13 years ago).  As I remember, I had to get a shot, and then he had to get another shot at birth. He's fine.

  4. Hi there i am negative and my daughter was positive everything went fine with my pregnancy and my daughter is 3 now and she is beautifull and healthy i didnt get the Rhogham untill after she was born im not to sure if that affected me having more children but the doctor said i should be fine so you have had the shot your ok goodluck.

  5. I am O negative. I had a the RhoGham shot while in the hospital after having a miscarriage. I don't know my finance's blood type and they told me they gave me the shot for the same reason as you. My mom was RH negative and had me but my dad is O negative. My mom had her first miscarriage because of the RH factor. That wasn't my reason for my miscarriage though.

  6. I am O negative and DH is O positive. I had the Rhogam shot while pregnant and after the birth of my first son who was O+.

I had the shot again while preg. with #2 who was O neg so I didn't need the shot after he was born.

I had the shot when pregnant with 3 and after because he was also O+.

FYI: I had the shots at about 28 weeks. If you have one early in your pregnancy then you will need another because they only work for so long. I also believe you need to carry a card with you in case of an accident because if a hospital tries to do a quick blood type test on you I don't know if the shot confuses the test. This is something I am very unclear on---but I do remember getting the card after the shots.

    Best wishes!

  7. I have Rh positive blood and my mother had Rh negative blood. I had some problems with the antibodies that were produced by her blood and it made me jaundiced. I had a period when I was deprived of oxygen and it caused some brain damage. I am now Hard of Hearing and I have some learning disabilities. I married a woman who has Rh negative blood also. So, when we had our son, he was born with my blood type but negative. His mom was negative and I carried the recessive gene for the negative RH blood factor which made his blood negative. He was born O.K and no problems.

They gave my wife a Rhogham shot after our daughter was born. She was stillborn from a kidney problem in utero.
