  1. Of course, I wasn't going to upset my wife by telling her every little detail of combat.  I've only related a few incidents and anecdotes to people I know.

  2. Yes. And there are some things I never intend on telling anybody.

  3. Of course.  I really don't tell any stories unless its guys in my unit that I was downrange with.  I tell my family I never even left the wire.

  4. I'm not a veteran, but my grandfather saw an openly g*y guy in WW2 get blown up by artillery.

    Kind of random.

  5. Yes, and we prefer to keep it that way.

It was my honor to serve this great nation, you are very welcome.

  6. We all have.

  7. Some things are best just left unsaid.  The memories are hard enough without trying to put words to them.

    Service was an honor.

  8. My husband talks about it all the time... he says there is nothing to hide, you've seen one dead body, you've seen them all. He is very insensitive though, so I wouldn't expect anything as brutal as war to upset him. He is mean like that. : /

  9. My father who fought in Vietnam doesn't like to talk about the war either.

  10. Why would someone who has not talked about it before now talk about it with you or on a public forum???

    Vet-USAF

@dded ; It is hard enough to talk about it with someone who was there, let alone a stranger ( I have know many Vets from Nam and the Middle east who will not talk to anyone they don't know unless they can prove they were there). So your fishing expedition here is prob waisted and anyone who talks about it here is prob a poser, but good luck.

  11. I have found that most of the ones that talk a lot, never saw anything. Each person has their own reasons for not talking about things they saw. My best friend and I were both in the USMC during Viet Nam. Neither of us ever asked a question about things that went on in our units. Some things are better left unsaid.
