Have any of you ever heard about a dog smashing itself through a glass window?

I had barely woken up the other day, when my boyfriend ran upstairs and yelled that he had to go to the vets because “a dog jumped through a window”. What I thought was that maybe one of our neighbor’s dogs had jumped from a second floor, open window & was likely lying on the ground-dead or dying. As it turned out-the dog had lunged itself through a first floor glass window. I’d never heard of this happening, and the occurrence perplexed me. I know that human beings jump out of windows & plunge to their death. (I frequently wonder what these human beings think about as they are "falling"), But (in all my years on this planet) I had never heard of such a thing-a dog that lunges itself through a glass window. I have only heard of dogs that get bored when they are left alone, so they tear the house to shreds, & try to destroy everything in sight. Miraculously (and luckily) the dog was a little bloody, but it did not do any serious damage to itself. I saw the broken window, and the dog’s blood, and all the broken glass on the ground. I felt like I was in an episode of “The Twilight Zone", because dogs do not go around crashing through windows on an everyday basis. When I was crying and asking customers waiting in line at the bank if they had ever heard of such a puzzling occurrence, the two women and one man that I asked just gave me a strange look. (God forbid we ever reach out to each other on this planet.) I later found out that this particular dog had jumped through a screen window (not a glass one) before. I also found out (from the man who was house-sitting for the owner of the dog) that the dog had not been cooped up for days or anything like that. The house sitter walks this dog (a chow mix) 3 times a day, & the dog had just returned from a very long walk when the dog decided to jump through a glass window (shortly after the house sitter left the house). I talked with the house sitter, and he told me that the owner loves and takes good care of his chow mix dog. I really do not understand all this at all (maybe a dog psychiatrist would LOL), but the good news is that the house sitter moved the couch away from the window (and the couch will permanently remain far away from the window). The house sitter seems to think that the dog might have had to first jump on the couch in order to be able to lunge itself through the glass window (or maybe the dog just stood on the couch-smashed it’s head on the glass-then jumped through the window to the ground). Hopefully, moving the couch will take care of this scary problem. Hopefully, this chow dog is not “super dog” who will (on a future day) just run and take a flying leap through the replaced glass window, because (if the dog smashes itself through a glass window again), it could possibly get very hurt or even die. I saw all the sharp shards of glass on the ground. I’m in utter amazement that my neighbor’s chow dog was not hurt more seriously than it was.

  1. Actually yes I have a few times.

The first time I was babysitting my aunts Rottweilers and her male jake never liked being left home alone for any amount of time. any way I left to go to work and as I was pulling out of the drive way Jake lounged out of the second story window of my aunts house. . Needless to say he scarred me have to death. We were very lucky. he broke a leg but that was all. He is now taking dogie xanax for separation anxiety.

The second time My little brother who is physical and mentally handicap was playing in the yard when some strange guy came in to our yard. My little brother's Rat Terrier Kip went flying right out of my back door window and went after the guy. He thankfully was alright.minus a few scrapes and scratches.

Dogs do some crazy things like with my brothers dog I can understand why he did it. He was protecting his boy. But with my aunts dog. who was 5 years old at the time and had been left alone countless times with only destroying things in the house before this. I will never understand.

  2. My husband had a pitbull when he was growing up. The dog was very mild mannered and never had a problem with people. One day he got a running start and jumped through a glass door, out onto the front porch. Hubby said that the mailman on the porch just about passed out from fear, only to have the dog, who was now bloodied, start l*****g him uncontrollably. The dog just really wanted to say hi,lol! She only had a few cuts.

  3. Separation Anxiety.  Dogs will do crazy thing with separation anxiety, looking for his owner, not wanting to be left alone in the house.
