You smell like you lived with the animals that came over on the ark.

because i think i just made it up i was describing my neighbor because he smells really bad..I hope he took the hint...

I dont think that he new the smell on him is rotting bacteria

No, but I've heard of "You smell like a runaway slave".  Yours sounds like it smells much worse.  Perhaps he's ill.  :(  What a rude thing to say to someone.

Why not subtly tell him that he emits a not-so-pleasant smell. ln the nicest way possible.

It's really sad when we are unable to communicate with kindness the best way to let someone know about hygiene.  Every now and then I will get a student who has body odor, and depending if it is a female or male, we have ways to handle it without being offensive or making the student feel worse.  Kids are mean enough  and usually, they are the ones who will let the teacher know when a student is having a problem.  Most of the time, we let the counselor handle the problem -but there is a way to tell someone anything - if your intentions are truly to help them, and not ridicule them.
