Everyone i know who took two years of a highschool spanish cant really speak a l**k of the language, and passed the class with no sweat. sure they know alot of the words, but they cant even carry out a fomral conversation with any one who speaks spanish. it is said that all a person needs to speak in any language is atleast a 1000 words. i beleive i gone through that many when i was learning chinese for two years in highschool. i can barely speak the language, which saddens me greatly. i love chinese cultures and movies, but when it came to the class i was so freaking bored. along with the mojority of everyone elese in my class. well anyways have any of you learned to become fluent in a language after highschool course.? and if not and you know a second language how did you learn it?

  1. I learned English. Spanish is my first language, and I also learned some Italian in school. You can learn any language as long as you dedicate yourself to it.

  2. i learned english by moving to the states i can speak it fluently after 4 years but when i moved i was like 10

i think the best way to learn is living in an area like hong kong but i suppose you could learn in college although it is frustrating and boring

living in China would be the funnest and best way to learn language and culture , if you dont have anything holding u back why not move for a couple years

( i tried spanish for 2 years in high school and didnt do much good and my teacher was a pain )

  3. i speak dutch in my home, but i can hardly read or write it. school taught me hebrew and now i read, write and speak (none too well but i can carry on a conversation). you have to be in a place where you absorb the language, a classroom setting is only enough if you LIVE that language by speaking and writing only that language. it takes more than 3 periods a week for 18 months to learn a language.

  4. Well, I'm really dedicated to my foreign language classes, so, yes. I do learn the language from them. But I also do my own private studies, summer break and during school.... I  really want to be an interpreter. I've inspired incredibly just to be multilingual...

BUT, that's just me. It seems I'm one of the three people in my class who actually try to learn. Everyone else is S****y. I am definitely the most dedicated and the best, by far regardless, though.

  5. No. I never really care about it. I took Japanese but never really get deep into it. I'm asian already and it's just hard for me to learn another language.

  6. I am taking japanese right now and we do audio and visual activities which helps us out alot..

we talk to real japanese people and converse with them and keep using our context over and over and over

we always review what we have learn so we never forget

i still remember tons of things from japanese

    and i haven't fogotten...

this is my 3rd year taking japanese and I have learned alot and i am pretty confident i can talk to anyone in japanese :)
