a famous person or character from a tv show ?

I'm a big X-Files fan and would consider calling my daughter Dana, is that really sad ?

Haha, it's not sad. I think a lot of people like names because of associations they make, though in most cases the association isn't as obvious as a certain famous person or character.

I like the name Bradley because of Bradley Nowell lol.

My son's name is Bowie, after David Bowie.  I saw the name in a name book and thought it was cute, but the ultimate deciding factor was that my husband and I are both really big David Bowie fans.

haha i can see that. i love miley cyrus, but i would never name my daughter miley.  too wierd.  but since Dana is such a nice name, it is not sad at all

i like the name lorelai from gilmore girls but i just like the name, if i named my daughter that it wouldn't be "after" the show or person but just that i liked the name.  i can't think of a tv show or character that i like enough to name a person after. however i did name my dog patrick after patrick star on spongebob squarepants. and my parents named me after a stupid song.

My children's names are all from the Bible so you could consider them famous names.

And it isn't bad to be inspired by a character at all, just remember you may not love X-Files forever so give it some consideration.

I think as long as it is a nice name there is no problem with it. As long as when someone meets your child, they don't automatically think of the person you named them after, because that would get a little annoying if, say, your name was Alanis or something. Upon introduction people would automatically say, "Hey, like Alanis Morissette!" Haha. It takes away from your childs identity.

Dana is a goregous name, though. :]

In a way yes. I was watching a film (think it was Shallow hal) and ther was a lil girl in the burn unit called Kaydence. I like the name but liked Kaydie better so she was called Kaydie Elyse (Elyse after a car).

No.  They were named for family members and friends.

My son's middle name is Strummer...he was named after a rock legend, not a TV character.  I don't see anything wrong with naming a child after a TV character...and besides, with a name like "Dana", it's not going to be immediately obvious that she was named after Scully (unlike a name like "Strummer", where it is totally obvious who he was named after).

No, I made up the name of one of my daughters, and I named the other after a friend.  But no, it's not weird, unless you're going to name your kid something like Darth Vader or Hannibal Lector.

Just make sure the name doesn't have a negative connotation so people don't associate your kid with a bad person of the same name.
