I'm looking for examples of big companies going out of business due to smaller companies out growing them, or any examples similar to this. Maybe something like, a small company coming out with a superior product or service, which casued the large companis sales to drop drastically, resulting in their closure.

Thanks

  1. Generally all companies start out as small companies.  WalMart started out as a single dime store that eventually found the key to delivering low prices, superior logistics

  2. It has happened multiple times

It's difficult to see it happening the very moment it happens, but if you look in the past you can find a few examples. You might find a few recent examples in fashion but that is not my cup of tea.

The major transatlantic passenger ocean ships (like the Titanic) are all put out of business by airliners which offer a better product

  3. Specific answers to your questions has many many answers.

To have some first hand example, here are two.

    1) Anglo Swiss Watch Company's monopoly was washed away by the Japanese watch merchant Seico.(or Siko/Sico).

    2) Bedford Truck manufacturer's market had been washed by the Indian upcoming (the then) Tata Motors, now the largest truck manufacturer in India.

Ups and downs are the two names of business, and it was, is and continued to be true.
