My time for the 800 meter is 2:26 and im in middle school. Is that a good time? If you think i could get a better time than that, could you give me advice on how to get a better time. Also, my brother wanted to know if 9.8 for the 75 meter race is a good time for 7th graders.

  1. Well when I ran my PR(1:55.01) I ran a SMART race! In a smart race I've seen 1:59 runners beat 1:56 runners. I usually run my first lap faster then slow down for my next lap. That's a strategy I see alot of sprinters do. I see distance runners try and run even splits which are ok but not in a close race. I ran my splits in :56 and was in first. I got to the 600 and I was at 1:25 3rd place. And my last 200 was in :30 and I won. I made the other runners think they would have enough left to kick but on that last 100 they were drained.

  2. make sure you don't go out to fast. you want to keep a steady pace your first lap...don't get behind everybody but don't feel like you have to be in the front of the pack right of the back. just make sure you're running by somebody at all times.   conserve your energy for your second lap. when you're on your second lap start picking up your pace a little when you have 300m left. then at 200m start your kick.  the people in front of you won't just be exhausted but they won't know you're coming.  thats my advice...keep it steady then kick it in near the end of the race. believe me i'm a track runner and my highschool team is going to state next week.

  3. Your 800M time is pretty good. I'm also in middle school, and I'm an 8th grade guy. My best 800M so far is 2:26.87.

  4. your time is an ok time considering your only in middle school. You could work on it though. there probably isnt a whole lot you can do now to decrease your time by monday, the only thing you can really do is not over work yourself today and sunday, drink lots of water, dont eat S****y food, and just relax.. for future reference, you should do 1 or 2 speed workouts a week.. you could do ladders, or 400 repeats. A good goal for monday is to get a 2:20 or lower, and from there push yourself to do better each time. im a freshmen at highschool running a 2:06 for my 800 so i know what im talking about

  5. i am from New Zealand, and i train with someone who is of similar age to you guys, and he runs 2:08 for the 800m, we train hardout twce a week, and just do long runs on the off days, and rest on friday before races...
