  1. That's a very good time for middle school.  If I were you I would make sure to eat well before the race (lots of carbs not too much protein, nothing in the hour before the race) then try to go out for the first lap in 66-68 seconds and then that second lap give it everything you''ve got.  It will be painful for that lap but remember the next day you won't care about how much it hurt, just the time you ran.  So just suck it up and go!

    Good luck!

  2. depending on your fitness (im not sure what times are good anymore, sounds good but) go fast but not sprinting pace for the first 600 or so metres and give it all youve got for the final few hundred...and importantly, if someone takes off sprinting at the start, DONT ATTEMPT THE SAME IF YOU CANT FINISH THE RACE AT THAT PACE

  3. You didn't mention your gender, but I believe that is a good time for either gender considering you're in Middle School.

    Preparation outside practice:

You need to combine strength training with cardio to see optimum results in your performance. Do pushups, crunches, lifts, etc.; you can find variations of such strength exercises online. Variety is beneficial; it will truly challenge your body and take it to limits it has never reached.

    800m on race day:

Everyone paces oneself differently. If you're allowed to cut in right after the gun goes off, make sure you get a good start; don't let anyone elbow you in an attempt to push you back. If anything, elbow others:) Start out at a fast jog, and take it up a notch after the 200 mark. After your first 400, just hang in there; try not to slow down. When you come to your last straightaway, give it all you've got left. There's no one way to run for everybody; each person has his/her strengths and weaknesses. Try not to let yourself get psyched out. One saying I like to run through my head is "Pain is weakness leaving the body". It's a saying by the Marines, and it's great to think about when you're feeling mentally and/or physically exhausted during a race. Good luck!:)

  4. Seeing as I've never seen you run, I cant give much help, but you dont want to drastically change things on the last race of the year anyways. My advice would be to do what you usually do, and try as hard as you can. Another thought would be to ask your coach, and see if he has any suggestions. Or you could always find a runner who usually runs around 5 seconds faster than you and try to beat them. sticking right behind someone faster than you, and trying to beat them on the second lap, is a great strategy and you'll almost definitely run faster. Just try to be realistic about who you want to beat.

  5. Don't overstride. Sometimes runners, especially me, try to stride farther than they can especially towards the end. This may seem like it helps but in reality it takes more energy because your whole body has to go with your legs. Its actually better to take smaller, shorter and quicker steps as you come down the back stretch. And always pump your arms
