  1. Not yet.

    Engineers don't want to become famous, in as much as you have to die to become famous, as did John Luther "Casey" Jones, his Mexican counterpart Jesus Garcia, Steve Broady (of the song Wreck of Old 97 fame), Ben Duberry (also immortalized in song) and the idiot Ricky Gates.  The latter is the one dope smoking s.o.b. that got by a stop signal (with a light engine, no less) and clobbered an AMTRAK train, killing many, but not himself, of course.

  3. Not that I know of, but nowadays on Amtrak I have heard women working at the throttle.  And boy if those trains don't run on time....

  4. Several preserved (or 'heritage') railways in the UK have female drivers (or engineers) but I don't know whether these would fall within your definition of 'famous'

  5. Not many famous male ones.  In modern times there are many female engineers.
