What are your thoughts about the possibly descrimination in death sentences?

  1. I mean, the fact that there were a number of aggravating circumstances vs. no mitigating circumstances didnt help this case at all.  But if you look at the racial disparities in sentencing, you absolutely cant deny that blacks, hispanics, and other minorities recieve harsher punishments.

    However, lawyers are given peremptory challenges for the reason that if both sides agree on the jurors, then their verdict will be more accepted, to recieve the death penalty, the vote must be unanimous.  Since this case actually took place, both sides agreed with the jurors, so I dont think there was any discrimination here.

    The statistics given in the books about blacks recieving the death penalty vs whites is irrelevant due to the aggravating/mitigating circumstances.  In this case, two counts of robbery and one count of murder was enough to aggravate the sentence, ultimately to make it a capital case.
