With Time Warner I pay $20 /month for just the basic cable. I only subscribed to the cable to improve viewing quality and it works great. What if I cancel cable and just use the new converter box? Will my reception be as good as it is w/cable or will my picture be fuzzy and difficult to watch as it was before cable?

  1. If your reception before you got cable was poor, you may not get anything at all with a converter box.  If the signal is too weak, digital TV just quits; if the signal is marginal, you may get a picture some times.  If the signal is good, you will get a better picture than basic cable.  If you can get a converter for a low enough price, it might be worth it to try it before you cancel the cable.  If it works, you will save $20 a month and get a better picture.

  2. converter box is just for people with rabbit ears catching an analog siganl only. the news stations are going to stop broadcasting analog and go to digital. if you had an old tv with no digital tuner, and rabbit ears only, you would lose signal. it will have no effect on any paid service. of any kind. over the air antenna only. your service descrambels for you. whether via a box, or before it gets to your house.
