Have fallen in love with Ireland (West coast) and would love to spend more time over there.?

Daughter committed to secondary school for another 5 years minimum/both self-employed. Any ideas???

Ditto! were in the same position  both self employed and my husbands committed to earning as much as poss before we move over there,(both our kids are grown up with families of their own) .

Where are you thinking of going? I love the west coast too from Sligo downwards

Hi,

unless moving is something the whole family is wanting then it's probably not the best choice. Lovig somewhere as a holiday destination and wanting to be there permantely or for long periods of time is a different thing entirely and could possibly ruin your positive thoughts about it, as it wouldn't be your place of peace and break from reality.

I am from the East coast and I have to say I love the West, especially Galway/Sligo direction. My only real advice would be to keep planning trips over when you get the chance, with an airport at shannon, flying direct to the west is possible. ask your daughter for her school term dates and plan around that.

Well you could become a surfing instructor - I'm not kidding - the West Coast of Ireland has some really good surfing spots. It also has the cleanest and clearest air you will ever find because there is almost no pollution.

Perhaps the west coast is not the most ideal place to move for somebody who is self employed. However, there are huge government grants(upfront and continuous)  for people willing to bring some employment to the "whest" of Ireland...

Id say go to County Clare its not too bad, if you like surfing you can go to Lachinch they even have competitions there. As for moving in you will have to rent, as due to being Outsiders you will NOT be given planning permission to build a home until you have lived in a area for a minimum of 10 years. This might seem extreme  but county Clare does have the strictest planning permission in Ireland. They do not even give planning permission to build a house on your own farmland with out proving you have lived in the village for 10 years and can provide references of good standing. They can also tell how many and what style windows you are allowed to put in and what colour to paint your house if they want. They also don't like houses with more than 2 stories and getting permission for 2  alone can be very hard.

Schooling is good and free for the most part.

If self employed helps to have good chunk of money in bank as starting up despite all the grants is hard. Id say go into Childcare creches as 20 places have open in this county all with €1,000,000 grants each. Plenty of grants to get, just contact county enterprise boards.
