Have had a colonoscopy....?

Have had severe abdomen bloating for about 17months now - to the point that i have often been mistaken for being pregnant. Erratic bowel movements but no constipation. Sick every now and again for no reason. I choke a lot too and gag a lot. Anyways it is the bloating and discomfort that concerned me most. Doc not sure what was causing it. I should also mention that i had a miscarriage 18months ago and the bloating started not too long afterwards. Have had an ultrasound to make sure no tissue remained in my womb. Had colonoscopy a week ago - he said it all looked ok - there was blood but he could not see where it was coming from. He said there were some grey patches which he has taken biopsies from. Am starting to worry a lot. What would be my next step if colonoscopy results dont show anything? And why would there be 'grey' patches in my colon?

PS - Im female 28yr old, IBS treatments not worked, coeliac test came back negative.

  1. Well, it is obvious that SOMETHING is going on! Is your doctor a general physician or is s/he as specialist? I would think you should be seen by a gastroenterologist, that is a doctor who specializes in problems of the digestive tract. Finding blood is certainly of concern. Grey patches could be cancerous growths, which is why the doctor had biopsies taken. There are some micro-organisms that can create gas in the bowel. Has the doctor ordered stool specimans? Blood tests? You have a right to have all of those things assessed so don't let the doctor talk you out of them. Tell your doctor that you want to have stools checked for abnormal micro-organisms. Good luck. I hope you write back and also get better soon.
