I have had it with public school and my parents and are transfering me to a private boarding school. Right now I am suspended for 3 day you want to know why, I defended my self in a fight, by defend I ment shielded my face and used karate BLOCKS did not ever strike back and I get suspended for 3 days while the agressor is suspended for 1 day. Do you know why this happened it was because I wrote a paper about how homosexuals should have the same rights as straight people.(i am straight) My teacher asked to read it for the class I voiced my concerns about my peers reaction, she said I was being silly so I allowed it.Way to go teacher! What would you do if your child's school puled this f*ckin sh*t?

  1. I would ask for a meeting with the board, you should not be suspended for this, especially since it was your first fight (I'm assuming) and if this person came at you, then they should be suspended for longer.  The teacher should also be in trouble for coercing a child to allow them to read an essay in front of the entire class.  This whole situation is the teachers fault.  Even if you stood their and let the kid punch you without blocking, you probably would have still gotten suspended just for being involved.  did they accuse you of antagonizing through your essay or anything?

This is something you should fight, go to the school board, and threaten to get a lawyer as well, whether your parents do or not is their choice, but they can still threaten.  If my kids school did this i'd be in there meeting with everyone person with authority, from the assistant principle right on up to the superintendent, and threaten to call my lawyer if they refuse to listen.  I'm only 19 and don't have kids yet, this is a bunch of bs.  Is the other kid at an age where you can press charges?  If so teach them a lesson and do so, you have every right to defend yourself so you did nothing wrong and can't get in trouble.  Good luck, this suspension needs to be reversed you did nothing wrong.

  2. Like it or not, you were still a part of the fight (even though you were blocking). These things happen. I would figure out what happened and get both sides of the story, and make my decision.

EDIT: Violet, I'll tell you how it is to be a g*y student...I'm 17 and just began my senior year of high school today, at a Catholic high school. It is VERY hard to do this, and even though I'm closeted it is excruciating. If you want details, email me, I'll tell you some of the horrors.

  3. That—sucks

  4. If some school tried to pull this on my kid, I would want to fight it but would most likely leave it be and transfer my kid, if my kid wanted to do that.

It would really be up to my kid if we fought it or left it.

  5. wow that totally sucks

people these days, some can be so unfair

  6. That sounds very unfair. Not just the suspension for self defense -  I don't think the teacher should have forced you to read that paper in front of the class in the first place, unless reading it aloud was a part of the assignment, and everyone else had to do it, and everyone knew about it before writing the paper.

Beyond that, picking a fight because you argued for equal rights for homosexuals constitutes a hate crime.  The student who did that should have been suspended and/or prosecuted.

What would I do if it were my child?  I would ask for a full investigation into the situation, including interviewing witnesses and questioning the teacher about the assignment.  No school should suspend a student before they know exactly what happened and have determined who is at fault for what.  I would also ask the school administration to look into whether there is problem with harrassment and hate crimes and to address this with the student body. If a person can be beaten up for advocating for homosexuals' rights, what kind of environment must g*y students face?   That can't be allowed to go on.
