Question:

Have humans evolved before?

The earth is 4.5 billion years old so the scientists say and the sun is 5 billion years old with an approximate lifespan of 10 billion years (allegedely). Dust from space settles and archeologists can tell from layers of settled dust etc how old fossils are when they dig them up etc. I'm wondering how long it would take from an ameoba (with jumps of course) to get to human form. 65 million years ago the dinosaurs but compared to billions? even if it was just a billion years since life began , then how many times could life evolve into humans?

  1. This is an evolutionary dilemma. In theory, evolution should not produce the same results more than once. However, as time goes by more and more examples of convergence are being found. Convergence occurs when separate evolutionary lines have the same outcome.

  2. yes humans have evolved we evolved from fish and amphibians over millions of years into beings capable of survival outside of water (but no longer in it ironically)

evolution is the adaptation of a species to its surroundings to be able to survive it as best as it can, but can also be a result of random mutations of genetics that give rise to the species gaining an advantage and so that mutation may well become bred into the species and become the norm

evolution is inevitable and it is happening all around us in other species and eventually in ourselves

  3. Hello,

I am sorry if I mis-interpreted your question; it sounds like you have rationalized that humans would have evolved before, since simple cellular life has been around for perhaps billions of years.

Great question! I do not have a direct answer, however is is some background information you may find useful.

    *Evolution is a continual process

*Evolution isn't destine on any linear path. Life, (& it's non-life molecules), do not evolve into humans as an end result. Evolution has many paths and methods.

There have been different variations of humans and humanoid creatures. The evolution of Humans is a process. Apparently, some of our human-like relatives (and possible sub-species of humans) were intelligent enough to make tools, bowls, and clothing (Neandertal etc).

  4. If almost all life is wiped out and only amobaes are left, there's a chance that humans won't re-appear. Instead, there could be other intelligent mammals or even intelligent reptiles or birds.
