Have hurricanes ever dissipated ?

How could that happen? I'm worried about Gustav, of course.

  1. it happens when it gets close to land, it doesnt have water too feed off of.


  2. Hurricanes dissipate when they are cut off from a source of warm waters. Gustav would be weakened (to some extent) by movement over land and/or movement into cold waters.
