  1. I love some of the daft answers on here, people will say anything!

A handheld laser can be plugged into a video to record speeders but not usually on a bike. a video in one side of the panniers would be too heavy.

It is more likey that they were doing speed checks that involved stopping the motorist at the time.

In a 40 limit you wouldn't get a ticket till 46mph (10% +2mph), I personally wouldn't bother coming after you unless you were doing over 50mph.

You are 90% ok, there's only a slim chance that it was connected to a video

  2. I suspect you will find out by default before too long!

It could be that this was just an exercise designed to make motorists aware of speeding problems in a area. There are sorts of legal requirements about sped cameras and there being adequate signage to say they are in an area for them to be enforced in a court of law.

With regards to speedometer readings, there is an allowance of 10% variation, but this means 5% either way, not 10% in only one direction. Most speedometers are 2mph out. In practise, the police do not prosecute anybody going anything less that 5mph over the limit, so in your case you were caught.

Whether they will prosecute is purely down to police discretion, but as I say, you will find out soon enough if they have decided they will or not by letter. As the police officer was on a bike, it is hardly likely he would have come after you. If you were speeding at a much higher rate, he would probably have used his radio to get someone else to come after you.

  3. i think in a 40 zone, you are allowed 6 mph over to allow for indescrepencies(did i spell that right) on your speedo, think you ok

  4. The Police have to stop you there and then or send a letter to the registered keeper of the vehicle within 14 days. You have a 14 day wait to find out (or for the registered keeper to find out of you are not on the log book.)

  5. you will know within a month

  6. Not for being 6mph over the limit

  7. Hopefully you'll get a letter, if it says 40 it means 40!

  8. your gonna get a letter

  9. If you were speeding then you should be worried, might teach you a lesson no?

  10. c: you caught a break.

  11. The officer was within his rights to stop you.  If he was likely to, he would have done so then.  Most officers I know will generally not pull someone over for a 5-6 mile violation unless there was some other negative behavior.

  12. You might possibly get a letter, since he didn't come after you. If that be the case, and I know this is true. For I repaired radars, for all cop shops across our nation. For your defense, ask when the last time the bike cops radar was calibrated For by law they are to be calibrated every 6 months, but is required to be done at least once a year. For we also had calibration techs, on the road, going to cop shops to do this, and many places. Would not have it done for a 2 or 3 yrs., even when we would call the cop shops. Informing them when our techs would be in their area, and that they were way overdue for calibration, by law. Just a good tidbit of information to know. Good Luck

  13. These hand held devices, don't have any video recording devices.

If he was going to stop you, he would have stopped you as you approached him.  They pick up your speed from up to a half a mile away.

  14. The cameras at traffic lights are the one's that you get letters for.If a cop caught you speeding he would have attempted to pull you over.
