  1. Try to set the other phone up to that same jack and see if the same thing happens.  It might be the phone itself or your phone cord.

  2. All the above answers are on the money...one other thing it could be.. do you have a router for your PC?

It can give a "feedback" and cause static ,may need to be unplugged and then re-installed.

Cordless phones can also cause issues.

    Good luck

  3. static only on one phone, others in the house on the same line do not have static?

first take the static phone to a jack that the phone does not have static, and check to see if it is the phone, it could be the line cord, or handset (coil) cord, or could be interference with the cordless... it is possible the phone itself is defective..

the DSL filter thing is an option, if there is DSL on the line, replace the filter on this jack...

the jack may be wet, or the wires leading to this jack may be wet, or loose...

check the pins inside the jack for greenish, or blackish color, this indicates water damage, and the jack should be replaced, if not, remove the jack cover, ensure that the striped back wire is copper in color, and not black, and that the connections are tight...  you will need to trace the wire from this jack back to the other end of the wire, and check the connections at that end of the wire as well... the wire may need to be replaced...

  4. Do you have ADSL?

If so it's most likey a faulty ADSL filter (or a missing one).

Unplug all devices, then one at a time , plug them back in until you find to offending connection.

    Hope this helps?
