  1. Mousetraps. Lots of them. Clean your apartment to operating room standards and plug ALL holes and gaps into your walls, doors and windows. This won't eliminate them but it will slow them down. And you and your neighbors get lots of feisty cats.

  2. i agree with boots.  call your local health department.  as far as the rent goes, make sure you put the rent in a special bank account for the purpose of rent abatement.  inform the landlord. in writing, why you are not paying the rent  then when the landlord takes you to court for non-payment of rent you have proof that you have the rent but don't pay it because of unhealthy living quarters.  keep a copy of the notice you send to the landlord.  you need proof.  if you can get other tenants to go along with you it will help.  good luck; hope this helps.

  3. Okay if the management company is not taking care of the problem i.e calling in a professional to get rid of them. Then you need to contact your local Apartment Association and or Housing department because that is AGAINST THE LAW! They have to take care of the problem because if they ignore it they are providing an unhealthy enviornment for you and your family (especially if you have kids!) Do not let this go. EVERY time you go down there to report it make sure you write out the date time and who you spoke to because you may need it to prove in a court of law.

Also you have the right to abate your rent if the apartments are not holding up their end of the lease agreement that you both signed. Abating your rent means not paying all of it or not paying it at all because the living conditions are not up to code.

  4. We live our entire lives within a few feet of rats and mice and spiders.  We seldom see them so we feel safe.   You could cancel your lease if gunshots were happening in your parking lot.  Not for mice.  Buy some traps.  They are cheap and they work.   Move when your lease is up.  This is what turns renters into buyers. /
