Have most Americans forgotten the 4,150 dead Americans from the Iraq War?

It seems so rare that it's discussed any more. Have we forgotten that the Republicans lied and committed us to that quagmire?

  1. Americans care but when someone brings up the current war they are told they are either whiners or un-American by the pro-Bush and McCain camps. The only war the Republicans want to talk about is the one where McCain was a POW.

  2. They're probably a little pre-occupied with the 70,000 people that die in earthquakes in China, or the 100,000+ that die in tsunami's...or maybe they just dont care anymore.

  3. Because we are winning.   That is why we have to stay,   Because the surge worked.  It achieved 1 of 17 goals....   Geeze.

  4. How patriotic are you ? McCain wants our soldiers to come back winners not losers like the DEMS and you.

  5. 4200 coalition deaths.

    650000 Iraqi deaths.

    How is genocide defined?

  6. Sadly YES

  7. I know that this will fall on deaf ears and, also, on the ears of so many young Obama supporters who are searching for a reason to vote for him or, worse, not searching.

Even if you are not deaf, you likely will not understand as this is really well beyond your awareness and comprehension.

No one "lied" to the American people other than Saddam, but even if they did, there would have been a good reason to do so.  You will not accept that notion if you are inexperienced and, mostly, just young.

The truth that you are missing is that Bush managed to get us into Iraq to make sure that there were no nuclear weapons about to sprout in Saddam's military.  If he had failed, and this is well beyond your pay grade, the chances are good that by now Iraq would have completed their goal of having a basic nuclear weapon.  Put one of those in NY or in DC before you decide that Bush did not know what he was doing or that he "lied" and got us into a "quagmire."

As a former military officer, I can say that both notions are simply incorrect.  As an expert on nuclear weapons production issues, I can say that Iraq would likely have been able to field a nuclear weapon by now if we (Bush) had not taken advantage of the terrorist threat to leverage us into making sure that Saddam's nuclear weapons program was shutdown once and for all.  As a Vietnam Veteran, I can say that the amazing thing here is that so few Americans have died in this war, almost every war in history taking many more lives and for far less reason and over days not years.

I see no value in the view that this war is a quagmire or that anyone lied about anything.  All that does is promote failure and reveal ignorance, and it is an artifact of the unfortunate political system that we have, where everything the other party does is automatically wrong and must be criticized all the way to the mat.  It is what we call propaganda when we look at it with understanding.

So, your answer here is that we Americans (the experienced ones, anyway)  remember very well the loss of life, life expended in the interest of protecting our freedoms and, when feasible, sharing freedom with others in the world.  Was it worth it?  Very much so.

At some point in the future, the terrorist radicals will indeed either attack us with a radiological dispersion device and all you inexperienced and whining folks will likely be hysterical in the other direction.  Worse, of course, is that it is just a matter of time before someone detonates a real nuclear weapon in a real city as a terrorist act.  We would lose about 60,000 people instantly even if such a weapon was minimal, like those used in World War 2 to end the war with the Japanese.  It could easily be far worse and would tumble the country into a real economic depression since we would likely lose habitation of most of New England or, perhaps, everything from DC to Philly.

So, contrary to popular opinion and the popular press, the Republicans got it right (I don't want any democrats besides Joe Lieberman to get credit) and Bush will go down in history as one of the best Commanders in Chief if not the best president overall.  Go figure that out, if you can.

  8. Freedom isn't Free.

  9. They don't care. America is full with hate.

  10. Fortunately MOST Americans have NOT forgotten, which is why MOST Americans are voting for Obama/Biden. Thank God, it's time to bring our troops home!

  11. no

    freedom is not free, buddy

    hugs!

  12. Boy are we the the most spoiled wrotten  generation there is! Selfish  and ungratfull  to the wonderful men and women out ther protecing our  brattiness! Have we for gottten the  thousands who died to make it possible to be in a free country????????? IF this country fall We deserve it!

  13. Thanks God someone has brought up the most important issue in this election. The death of our soldiers was caused by a Republican who wants to pass on his legacy to Mccain. WAKE UP PEOPLE, innocent people are dying each and every day.

TO MRZ - I would rather have our soldiers come alive than having them come back in body bags and a victory. OUR MILITARY IS FIGHTING A WAR THAT DID NOT BELONG TO THEM.
