Have most of the questions on global warming become so absurd that they are not worth your time and effort?

Also, it seems like most questions posted by the deniers are spam, or thinly-veiled rants. Do such poor quality questions and answers violate the community guidelines?

  1. It's funny you should ask this question - the past few days this exact thought has run through my head several times.  I'll look at the recent global warming questions, and it's hard to find any which are even worth answering.  Many are simply veiled rants by the deniers, political rather than scientific in nature, of course.

It becomes tiresome, because there's not much point in answering them.  The deniers will just ignore your answer and choose somebody who insults Al Gore.  The only point in answering these questions is to correct the misinformation within.

Unfortunately as long as the deniers are careful in their phrasing of the question, they don't violate the community guidelines despite going against the purpose of Yahoo Answers (to ask sincere questions and learn something from the answers).  Deniers do a good job of using Yahoo Answers as a forum to spread denial and nothing more.

  2. I love the polar bears, don't get me wrong, but all this about global warming is getting on my nerves. I don't really get how they would stop it.

I buy a ton of peace, recycle, and 'save the earth' clothes and bags and stuff, but just for the style.

So cute. I love getting involved with stuff like this though. It makes me feel important.

    :)

  3. Actual legitimate questions are truly rare around here.

The signal to noise ratio has become smaller than normal recently.  I do wish we could filter out the following such types of nonsense posts:

    1) Al Gore ...

    2) We're all going to die ...

    3) It's a liberal/communist/environmentalist hoax ...

    4) Humans are evil ...

    5) The climate scientists are all in cahoots/dumb ...

    6) When will GW destroy the planet...

    7) It's hot/cold/wet/dry/windy/cloudy today, therefore ...

  4. Well it is good to educate the public. A lot of old people I know say pretty uneducated things about it like, "But warm is good, isn't it." and "We had the worst blizzard ever out here in ____. Global warming is a myth." So even if there are some stubborn people, I think its better there is some talk rather than no talk.

  5. It's a political discussion-- what do you expect.

EDIT-- for Satan-- virtually everyone of your "points" is false--

for example-- regrow the forests-- they are already larger here in the USA than in 1900.  About 1/3 of the USA is forest!

And the Amazon is being cleared to plant sugarcane for Ethanol.....which is another SCAM energy product. Sort of like Organic Foods is a scam.

  6. not worth my time or effort but that's me.  People have to find something to worry and complain about, it ridiculous and yes absurd

  7. Your right,

Global Warming is not a Doomsday  Prophesy  it is a wake up call.  The first thing we need to do is help make some changes in our national mind set from one that lets us believe that our earth can recover from anything, to one that lets us believe that our earth could use a little help.

Developing cleaner ways to produce electricity is not going to hurt a thing, if it doe’s nothing but make the air we breathe cleaner it works for me.

Developing  alternative fuels to power our transportation needs , again won’t hurt a thing, reduce the demand for oil you reduce the price we pay  for it, I think everyone can say “that works for me” to this.

In our everyday life one of  best ways  to help focus your mind set  in the right direction is to say to yourself each morning, “Today I will do no harm to the earth” I do this it works, I find myself doing little things that in the long run enriches my life, again it don’t hurt a thing.

I could go on about this all day but I won’t. I’m a global warming  advocate but, not because of some unfounded fear of  Doomsday but (as you may have guessed by now) because it won’t hurt a thing to help our earth recover from  years of  industrial plunder.

  8. Most of the questions, unfortunately, are rhetorical.  I'd love to have a real Q&A on global warming, but it doesn't seem possible here. I don't know how many times I've given a real answer to a question and found out that the questioner doesn't care.

  9. When dealing with such an absurd premise (man-made global warming), one can only expect the questions to follow suit.  Fortunately, I'll underbid anyone around on time and effort (totally worth it)!

  10. I agree with Dana, except I end up correcting both "deniers" and "believers" alike, which, as you could probably guess, gets tiresome.

"Also, it seems like most questions posted by the deniers are spam, or thinly-veiled rants. Do such poor quality questions and answers violate the community guidelines?"

You can't totally blame the "deniers" (although a lot of dumb questions come out of the "deniers")--proponents like  aaronesque and sometimes Dana post thinly-veiled rants as well, and thus, contribute to the absurdity. But, absurdity is something you must expect from forums such as Y!A.

"Have most of the questions on global warming become so absurd that they are not worth your time and effort?"

Most of the questions that show up here are absurd--I tend to skip around and only really post on questions that are substantial, or if I find another answer that needs a response. I do occasionally indulge and answer an absurd question; adding to the absurdity.

I typically only ask a question that I don't already know the answer to, or if I want a different perspective on an idea, paper, etc.

  11. They are very absurd. Take this one for example...

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

The poster provides no evidence whatsoever, but this is typical for him, and is preaching to the converted. I, on the other hand, provided about 7 links to actual science websites, but guess who will get "thumbed down?" Par for the course! Denial is more powerful in some than reality.

  12. Don't worry Benjamin, there will be some questions coming soon, that will allow you to smear a climate scientists or two that disagrees with the IPCC report, so just sit tight.

  13. No.., these questions let me practice my sarcasm.

  14. Yes... and i think we can all actually agree on this!
