i'd go with Rugby ... i'm a bit bias probably becuase i play Rugby

but not only do we have to deal with tackles without padding ... during Rucks your going to get stood on, stamped on, kicked, punched.

in mauls your going to get punched and kicked.

your going to get tackled, be winded so bad you can't breathe, but because the game doesn't stop after a tackle, you drag yourself out of the mud, and carry on running no matter what the pain

Rugby league is more physical

Rugby union is more kick and run

but both don't use the padding like USA football

well generally as footballers have less contact in their game so at professional level id say rugby players but at amateur level it depends on the person and their activities and training outside the sport. But on average i would say rugby players are tougher because they need to be for their style of game whereas footballers don't. hope this helps

depends on your definition of "tough".  they are playing basically the same game without the padding..

rugby players will tell you they're tougher, football players will tell you they are...

I've know enough of both to say that they're all missing a few vital brain cells!!

Bear in mind rugby players wear no pads and also don't take a lot of breaks and have to continually drag themselves up off the ground and get around the field.

Whatever your stance, I think it's safe to say that both sports are tougher than soccer.
