  1. You need to shred them or burn them to be safe.  Never put important info in the garbage.

  2. You want to shred, burn, or otherwise destroy the information contained in these papers that could lead to credit card fraud or identity theft.

No shredder or fireplace? One magazine I read not long ago suggested ripping sheets lengthwise in at least four strips, the idea being that the more vertical rips, the less likely any complete account numbers, social security numbers, etc. would be on any one strip. They said this is something you can do in front of the TV, or do with your kids.

The strips from all your papers can then be mixed in a large carton or plastic bag. (Good luck to any thief trying to reassemble them.) Over the next several weeks, put handfuls of strips in your kitchen trash and make sure moist kitchen waste comes in contact with them. We're talking meat and poultry trimmings, melon rinds, coffee grounds, like that.

Apparently thieves don't like touching yucky slimy stuff any better than the rest of us. Between the moisutre's damage to the paper, rot and mold, and the ee-e-e-ew factor, your paper disposal should be safe.

Another tip in the magazine was to add the strips to a compost heap.

  3. Burn the bank and credit card statements to get rid of your debts.

  4. Cut them up or if you have a shreeder  you can use that.

  5. In a shredder or a barrel full of fire

  6. if you are as paranoid as I am about such things, do this:

    1. shredd them with a shredder

    2. soak the shreds in water for a day

    3. when the mush is dry, burn it.

I defy anyone to extract your information after that!

  7. buy a shredder.  they are very affordable now days.

  8. Burn them in the fire place like I do with all the bulk junk mail and magazine, cardboard, chip wrappers, etc.  Great fire starter material....  Simplifiy your life and declutter your life of "stuff."

  9. I usually shred mine.  You can buy a paper shredder for about 20.00 at any office supply store.

  10. A document shredder costs approximately 50 Dollars. It is a small investment for protecting your privacy.

  11. light a match

  12. Put them through a paper shredder or burn them.

  13. A shredder is a great solution, but be sure it is a cross-cut type which makes it even more difficult to reconfigure.  Then instead of going to the burn pile, just mix up the shreddings into a few separate bags and dispose of them at different times.

  14. we burn ours

  15. Burn them or shred them.........

  16. Mark out any significant numbers, including SSN and account numbers, and then shred the documents.

  17. Use a shredder, or, as I did before we got the shredder, I tore them up between the important numbers (seperated out the account number, for instance, into three pieces and threw them into three different garbage cans, one at the bank, one at the office, and one at home.  Something like that, or else I just put it in with the dirty diapers...anybody willing to dig through THAT bag, was welcome to whatever they could glean from it...lol)
