  1. I think James has home schooled children confused with public school children.  On average a child who is home schooled far outscores public schooled children on testing and are far better socialized with people of all ages.  Of course there are parents who shouldn't home school their children, but I have seen far many public school teachers who have no business in the classroom.

  2. Umm depends on how the person is like.

  3. If you are asking if people like better to get an education at a school or be homeschooled, then the answer to that is broad and you will get pro's and con's for both.

I attended public school K-12.  My three daughters attended a private Christian School.  My oldest graduated from Christian School and went on and attended a 4 year university. My middle went to the Christian School K-10th grade and then I homeschooled her grades 11 and 12.

My youngest attended Christian School K-8 and then I homeschooled her all of high school (She graduates in June of this year.)    So I have experienced it all, public, private and homeschool.  I think if I would have had an option when I was growing up, I would have chosen homeschool.  You can really focus on what the requirements are and then plan for a career.  In public school you do the requirements and then whatever electives they have available. It is much more limited from my perspective.

  4. I dont know what's with James. Many people dont spell perfectly- so what?? That is why there is spell check- and i admit that i am freqeuntly too lazy to always use it here on YA. A parent doesnt need to spell perfectly to homeschool their children. Do you think school teachers spell perfectly either?? They can spell decently, and for the rest they use spell check or a dictionarry.

As for his complaint that we homeschooling parents produce paragraphs with scattered thoughts etc, excuse me, but when i type on YA, i dont have time to treat my answers like i would treat writing a book or a school assignment, thinking how to organize each paragraph, writing a rough draft, a final draft etc. Nobody has time for that. It is perfectly okay when communicating to do a little 'thinking outloud' or groping for the words. Nobody expects their answers to be graded for an English class. That does not say anything as to whether we are competent to homeschool our children.

I think James is examining the writings of the homeschooling parents on YA with a fine tooth comb because he is looking to find fault.

  5. I like homeschooling. So much more flexible. Then again, I am a free spirit.

  6. I was homeschcooled K-12.  Going to public school was never really an option in our household.  But even if it had been an option I am pretty sure I would never have decided to go.  After hearing all the c**p my public schooled friends put up with there was no way it sounded like a good idea.  Plus, it just took up too  much time.  Which is one reason I decided not to attend private school either.  I felt it was a waste of my time.  So even though I only experienced homeschooling, I know enough about private/public schools to know that I would not have been as happen at either.  And as of right now I like homeschooling better than college.

  7. I think home schooling ought to be outlawed.   That is how strongly I feel about it.

Simply examine the  writings on this web site of parents who home school their children. They are not qualified to teach writing or good English to their children. I found misspelled words,  the usage of nouns in place of adverbs,   and whole single paragraphs sometimes ten inches in length with scattered thoughts.

You folks are being misled by your own selves!  The answers to posted questions on this very web site are written by parents who have no idea what constitutes good English and should not be teaching their children because they themselves are totally unqualified.

Please give your children better than you can offer as by your own examples,   what you can offer  is totally inadequate.

  8. i {oddly enough} like school better i mean you can talk to your friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, and you don't have to be at home all board so your parents can find chores for you to do.

  9. Sergio, I think it is totally dependent upon the child and his personality and learning style.  Additionally, I think homeschooling will only work with consensus in the family and at least one very dedicated parent to guide the learning process or supervise the student to whatever degree is necessary.  There also needs to be sufficient outside activity to promote healthy social development.  Lastly, I think the family needs to reassess intermittantly to be sure that they are still on board with the idea and follow through associated with the homeschooling commitment.  If all those components are there, homeschooling can be a successful and very appealing alternative to traditional brick and mortar schooling.

and to James M.   :    So homeschooling parents cannot provide adequate instruction in grammar and usage of the English language.  And you ask us to look closely at the posts contained in YA.  I did so.  This is what I found in your questions posted: "backgrouns," "BSing," "What you folks think?", "What 'is' the moral implications," "absorbant wages," "benifits," and "opinon."

Now, let's be real here.  This is hardly a venue where we all haul out our best writing skills.  This is meant to be a forum in which we can share and enlighten and learn.  Lets be nice and not cast stones.  My own posts are riddled with error and it are not exactly a testament to my own education.  You see the same types of errors in the teaching section.  It isn't a writing contest.   No one is perfect.  Ease up!

  10. It really depends on the person, the family, and the school.  My son and many of his friends prefer being homeschooled (though not many of them are at home very often, lol - they're at co op, lessons, the library, the park, friend's houses, etc.).  However, some of his friends work really well in a classroom and prefer to go to school rather than being homeschooled.
