Do you know of a kid that got suspended for the week of testing or of a parent who was asked to keep their child at home for the good of the whole school?

  1. i would think that would be illegal. they want the scores to be as accurate as possible so the school can work on its standards. if this has happened you should definitely report it, of course i am sure they would deny it..

  2. I would firmly talk to the principal( providing he had no clue) or the school board and if he still held his ground oh you better believe I would make a huge stink! I would also talk legal action this kind of behaviour needs to bedealt with ASAP! How is supposed to make children feel? Also it's not your fault the kids aren't learning it's their's and something needs to be changed!

  3. yes I do my son has dyslexia and was not put in for the tests and some of the sen children I work with were not.one child asked not to attend.

  4. We always get a form sent home asking if we want to have our children excused from the standardized tests. It is always optional. One of my kids is dyslexic and his teacher suggested to me that he not do the tests. Personally, I think most of these tests are a big waste of time anyway.

  5. I would call t he news and tell them what happen and get them caught or call the school board.

  6. This is what they do in every other country in the world... the reason the U.S. is always labeled as having 'bad schools' is because we include every child in our statistics, while other countries only include their 'good' students... what you are talking about is just the natural path that some schools feel they must take because of "No Child Left Behind" which punishes good schools with low scores... this is ironic because the American system has always been one of including all children, and it seems that now schools are choosing to leave children behind so they are not punished by "No Child Left Behind".

  7. I haven't heard of any cases personally, but I know this DOES happen.

You wouldn't believe the c**p schools do to bring up those scores so they can GET MORE MONEY

  8. no, i dont BUT it really wouldnt matter anyway....i live in the south and the education standards are so low here that all they would have to do is basically sign their name on the paper and the curve would give them a barely passing, but passing grade.....imagine if they at least christmas treed the test they'd probably at least get a C average for the test...i'm disgusted with the education (or lack thereof) that my kids get...back when we were in school we at least had to THINK, WORK and STUDY

  9. they cant do that.if i were you and my kid was asked to stay home i would take that as them thinking my child was dumb and they just wanted more money.

i would sue them on one of those court shows so the whole world can see the schools disgrace.

its a childish act to do

  10. in Texas, everyone has to take and pass the and take the test just to get promoted to the next grade. So even if they take the test at a different time, it still affects the schools score. My school was full of stupid kids who couldnt read and  they were all gangsters or s***s. this was a middle school. If 1 kid was absent, the principle would call the parents, go pick the kid up, then she would take the kid to the nurse to take the test. She wanted 100% attendance. That is so wrong what they did to your kid!

  11. No way! That's horrible! Do you? I think that's like, illegal.

  12. I know that some assessments can rank school performance and that one very low score can really affect a schools rank so they might want to not include that childs score so as not to get a low ranking. Some results determine funding by the govt so that might be another reason.

Also, for some children at both ends of the spectrum, assessments can be scary and detremental to the child's self-esteem so it might actually be better for them to miss out on the testing, rather than getting a really bad score or an average score.

Assessments are used to give feedback and let you know how the child is going compared to the average or expected level of achievement. If you think the school has got it right and they know how your child is going and his/her strengths and weaknesses then I see no reason to cause a fuss about being asked to miss an assessment. It's probably not going to give you any more information about the child's knowledge but will just reinforce what you/they already know.

  13. No unless the child they know is not going to take the test seriously. Why should they ruin it for a school and possibly others if the child is not going to do good on it on purpose? I am from a small town with a small school we do well but we can be consolidated. If that was to happen and i had the power and a group of child was just going to goof off i would have a talk with them
