Have sub-woofers really gotten that good?? Im looking at a Sony system that has 285 watts going to a 6 inch..?

and it doesn't seem like 6 inch subs would be capable of putting out that much yet alone have good, deep bass to it.. If you know anything about home theatre systems or have a recommendation, PLEASE fill me in!! Thanks!

Here is a good company that make excellent subs. Might be a bit more than you want to spend but I think they are quality subs.

I don't think one 6 inch woofer is really going to impress you. I have heard of systems using multiple smaller woofers to create a deeper bass sound. Although anything is possible nowadays. Sony's systems seem to be hit or miss in my opinion. Their speakers for home and auto are rarely that good. I recommend Onkyo, Infinity, Klipsh, Yamaha. You may not get as much for your money but the quality is certain.
