  1. naw man teachers needed unions. they were being paid almost nothing for the most important jobs in the country.

  2. why cant we fail parents who think schools are daycare centers and care less if their darling learn?

  3. I don't know what town you're finding those teachers in, but I'd move there! Are you kidding? Teachers are paid less than bank tellers. We're paid less than what a baby-sitter would be paid for watching their kids 7 hours/day. And we take our work home. When most workers come home, they drop their briefcase by the door and go play with the kids. When teachers come home, we grade, we plan meaningful lessons, we come up with creative projects, new ideas, we read the new brain research, we attend conferences, and we think about the day. If there's that one kid who was just a total jerk...guess what? He's on your mind while you're making dinner. You're replaying the behaviour whilst brushing your teeth. Our job doesn't end when the school bell rings.

We have to have unions in these days when kids who don't get what they want complain to parents who automatically believe their perfect student who then complain to the principal, demanding resignation or consequences. Sure there are some terrible teachers out there, but I believe they are the minority. Most of the time when students complain about a teacher, they are the students not doing the work and angry that the teacher has these "expectations". If mill workers are allowed to have a union, why can't teachers?

EDIT: Great health care? Are you kidding? I had cancer and my health care coverage is awful, putting me way in debt. If I had the health care I had when I was putting myself through school at the local grocery store, I wouldn't be in debt from the medical bills. I think you may need to do some new research. And every job is there for the public good! You pay for the cashier's salary when you go purchase food at her store, you pay the doctor to keep you healthy, you pay the city trash bill. Are these all not public service? Teachers have an important role - to educate the future leaders, workers, and public servants of our nation.

Learn to spell, please. A STEAL mill? Ha!

  4. It's clear some teachers have let you down, given your poor English. However it is not fair to criticise all fro the faults of your own teachers. Perhaps if you apply yourself and get help to lift your English expression you will fee better about teachers.

  5. You couldn't be more wrong. What kind of teacher are you going to get for $8 an hour? Thanks to union busting Reagan, things have gotten worse and worse. Teachers are one of the most under-paid workers in the US.
