No it's not just the Republicans, but both parties, because congress had to vote in favor of the war also.

   But  there is a little thing that no one seems to be very aware of- Do you realize that there are about 140,000 soldiers in Iraq, but the U.S. has another force of 140,000 hired mercenaries in Iraq that is paid at a much higher rate then the soldiers are, and their deaths are not counted as combat fatalities. There is also a very good reason for this- we simply do not have enough people in uniform to do the job without setting up the draft again.  The congress and the administration do not want the draft to be instituted again, because then their sons and grandchildren may have to go and fight a war, instead of the poor mans children that joined the service to learn a trade,or get a college education, or support their family. The rich mans kids go to work in the family business, and money for college is not a problem. The burden in this war is falling on the shoulders of the military and their families and no one else is sharing any of the burden.  The rich even got a big tax cut so they didn't even share any of the financial burden for the war. At some point, the middle class and the poor are going to realize what is going on and there will be some wholesale changes made in who they elect for office when that happens.
