Question:

Have the Williams sisters ruined the women's game?

Before the Williams sisters womens tennis used to be a game of technique, angles, accuracy and finesse, very entertaining to watch.

Now Serena and Venus have made it a game of who can hit the ball the hardest.

I have never seen either of them play with the skill that Hingus, Court, and many other talented women had.

The sisters use there size to bully other opponents.

Maybe they should introduce weight divisions into womens tennis? Have they ruined the game?

  1. no

  2. no not at all.. the willam sisters brought up the womens game.. they made it more athletic... they increased the power of the game...

they got players to become stronger, so now other players can bring more to there game

and they probably got other players hitting more angles better

the willam sisters did alot of good for the game..

  3. Isn't amazing when the men play nobody complains but when ever the sisters play it is always because they are bad for the game.  Tennis has been a boring dull, weak sports like was golf.  The Williams sisters brought  life to a dead game like tiger did to golf.  Get over it.  It's not their fault they are not as weak and frail like the pasty white ones.  They made the women on the court look like athletes because they better start working out and looking like athletes for a change instead of weak rats.  Where is Sharapova the great white hope?  She is too weak to keep up.  If she was winning it would be good but no, these black women are bad for tennis because white women can't win.  The usual loser cry.  Don't forget that blacks were not allowed in sports a few years ago in this country, now no game is a sport if blacks are not in it.  Basket ball was all whites, baseballs to name a few and now they are all taken over by blacks.  The same complaints by whites - blacks men are bad for the games they are too fast, too strong, too black.  So just get use to it.  The games have changed.  This is not the 20th century.  It is the future.  Your parents lied to you all.  Those weren't games being played then.  the games are just being played now. Welcome to the new ages - leave the past behind.

  4. First, I'd like to comment on the really moronic post above, all about race. First of all, the person who posted this question mentioned absolutely nothing about race, so for you to go on a long diatribe did absolutely nothing to answer the question and served only to make you come across as bitter. Also, I'd like to consider the fact that nobody complains about power in the men's game. You're wrong. On many posts on this board, you see people call players like Roddick one-dimensional because of his powerful serve and possibly Blake for his alleged one-dimensional ground game. For you to turn this into an argument about race is kind of sickening.

Now that I got that tidbit out of the way, I agree with you in the sense that I don't really enjoy watching the Williams sisters, mainly because the American sports channels force them down our throats whenever they can. Instead of showing other potentially good matches, they show a Williams match seemingly no matter what. That isn't to say their brand of tennis isn't exciting, but let's face it - there are plenty of other women who deserve the spotlight now and again.

While I feel they might not have done anything to bring back the classic 'touch style' of tennis, it's hard to say they're bad for the sport. Essentially, they generate enough interest to keep women's tennis somewhat of a priority in this country and they demonstrate a continuous urge for victory. Also, because they are Americans and because they're siblings near the top of their games, they help to drive ratings, which no doubt pleases the bigwigs at the networks.

Either way, though, I wish sometimes it were about more than ratings. There are many other great players whose matches should be shown.

  5. you dont know what u talking about...the sisters are quite good its high time u put it into yr thick head...

NO, think of the amount of money they get from just thumping the ball at the other player!!!
