Have the airlines lowered the size of suitcase allowed to check-in?

Someone who has traveled recently may be able to tell me about this. My suitcase is the largest size that used to be allowed, but when I measured it today, it seems to be about 2 inches bigger than the 62 inches the airline says they allow. I don't want to pay $260 for a too-big piece of luggage. Please help! Thank you.

unless you're overweight they won't really worry too much about the size, i mean when you have something that big you can't really eyeball 2" and they have a few seconds to determine if your bag may be oversized. if they think it might then they'll measure it, but again only 2".
