Have there been any eye transplants performed or tried.

I watched a show about sight and was wondering if it has ever been tried or thought about.

I don't think so. Implanting the eye would probably be simple enough, the problem would be connecting the optic nerve. It contains 1.2 million nerve fibres and at the moment we don't have a way of reconnecting cut nerve fibres. If we ever figure out how to repair a damaged spinal cord, then we might be able to transplant an eye and make it work.

the whole eye transplant has not been performed but there is corneal transplant.The cornea is the clear part of eye in front of the iris and pupil.coernea is avascular structure so it is possible for transplantaion.
